Looking Back at Convene’s Kickoff

Looking Back at Convene’s Kickoff

On November 19, 2025, Convene hosted its kickoff meeting at the University of Texas Health Learning Building, bringing together community members, service providers, and stakeholders to reflect on substance use services in Travis County. With more than 40 participants, the conversation created space for honest dialogue about what’s working, where gaps remain, and how systems can better meet people’s needs.

Participants noted the strength of some of the existing resources in Travis County. Resources around harm reduction, peer support, and community-based recovery stood out to the group as the most effective. The group also highlighted persistent challenges around access, coordination, stigma, and clear information. Across discussions, there was strong agreement that services are most effective when they are visible and responsive to the communities they serve.

Key Takeaways

  • Travis County has strong substance use resources, but access and coordination remain major barriers.
  • Peer-led, community-centered, and stigma-reducing approaches are making the greatest impact.
